Bosch Software Innovations wins sMove360° Award for charging apps

10/19/2016 —

The charging apps that Bosch Software Innovations currently provides together with car manufacturers Mercedes-Benz, smart, and Renault are making electromobility even more practical for everyday use throughout Germany. Now drivers of electric and hybrid vehicles can conveniently find over 4,000 publicly available and web-enabled charge points via an app and pay there with the click of a button. For this solution, Bosch Software Innovations received the sMove360° Award in the Software & Apps category at the eCarTec trade fair in Munich.

The sMove360° Award for Connected & Autonomous Driving honors projects and products that bring the mobility of tomorrow closer. Evaluation is based on the following criteria: scientific and technical performance, sales performance and market traction, sustainability, safety, innovation, engineering and design, feasibility, potential for successful implementation, and cost-effectiveness.

“We see our charging apps as more than just simple tools,” says Kai Weber, product manager for eMobility solutions at Bosch Software Innovations GmbH. “They’re an excellent example for how more and more areas of our lives are benefiting from connectivity. In the e-mobility sector, the Internet of Things opens the door to alternative mobility concepts.” For Weber, electromobility encompasses not only vehicles with electric or hybrid powertrains and e-bikes, but also concepts for smart cities and intermodal transport along with the corresponding charging infrastructure.

With its innovative technology, Bosch Software Innovations is laying the foundation for bringing together various players – such as car manufacturers, the operators of charge spots, energy suppliers, retailers, and the drivers of electric cars – on one software platform. However, customers don’t see what is behind the app: a high-performance nexus of systems connected in real time. For example, many charge point operators are connected via e-roaming platforms such as Intercharge. The technical basis for the charging apps is provided by the Bosch IoT Suite – a cloud-enabled software package for developing applications in the Internet of Things.

Data and facts about the charging apps

  • To date, more than 4,000 publically available and web-enabled charge spots have been connected.
  • Available apps:
    Charge&Pay for Mercedes-Benz
    Charge&Pay for smart
    Z.E. Pass
  • On average, each user uses their app 14 times per month – for example, to find out about charge spot locations.
  • Average charging time is one hour.
  • On average, charging app users charge their vehicles at public charging stations three times per month.
  • Currently, there are collaborations in place for the charging apps with Allego, Belectric Drive, EmiS, EnBW, E.ON, E-Wald GmbH, Ladenetz, RWE, Stadtwerk am See, and Veniox.
